Escape Artist is a film I got to pitch and Co-Driect with Nicole HArker in my third year at SCAD. The project was apart of a collaborative class where students have ten weeks to make a short. The film showcased 7 individual sets and 2 different character scales. I was responsible for Direction, set and prop design/fabrication, lighting, and animation.

Stair Room

The stair room was a forced perspective set for the smaller of the two scales we had on this project.

Spiral Staircase

The spiral staircase was another forced perspective build. The build was especially tricky to solve. It used the bigger thief puppet and required tie solid spots to tie down for animation. This set also had to include a spot for the practical light of the guard chasing the thief.

Other sets

The frames were designed following the upa style of the film. I designed them in photoshop and then traced those designs in illustrator so they could be laser cut. This allowed for frames to be scaled and skewed depending on the scale and perspective required in the set. the frames could also be cut in various thickness for visual interest. over 70 frames were made for this project.

The stolen painting
This frame was the star of the show so this frame is the only one of it's kind. This one specifically had to work with the three different scales so along with resizing the laser cut file it was cut with different layers and thicknesses.

The two hero sizes side by side, left is for 11 inch puppet and right is for the 4 inch.

THe warped perspective frame is for the opening shot of the film. is made from three layers of laser cut pdf.
